Cabbage is incredibly health beneficial. It abounds in antioxidants which have a beneficial effect on the skin. It’s also rich in potassium, iron and a number of vitamins. It can detox your liver and purify your blood, treat arthritis, rejuvenate the skin and resolve a number of skin problems like blemishes, pimples, skin irritations, wounds, acne, psoriasis, redness, rashes and ulcers.
If you consume cruciferous veggies, including cabbage, on a regular basis, you’ll rejuvenate your skin and slow down the aging process, thanks to the high amount of vitamin C they contain. They’re also abundant in vitamins A and D which also improve skin quality and protect your skin from the harmful UV rays.
There are a couple of types of cabbage:
1. Green Cabbage
Green cabbage is the most common type of cabbage which we usually eat as a salad. It’s rich in vitamins and nutrients and tastes delicious.
2. Red Cabbage
Red cabbage, or purple, is a denser variety than the green cabbage and has a peppery flavor. Just like the green one, it can be eaten as a salad and is abundant in nutrients.
3. Savoy Cabbage
Savoy cabbage is a bit darker and has bigger leaves than green cabbage. You can use the leaves of this type of cabbage to wrap different filling and create an amazing meal.
4. Bok Choy
The Chinese cabbage, or Bok choy, is pale green, oval shaped and has leaves with white veins.
If you suffer from joint pain, cabbage compresses can help you significantly in reducing the pain and alleviating the condition. Here’s how you can prepare them:
You’ll need:
- 1 Cabbage (the best to use is organic red)
- A bandage
- Some aluminum foil
Take out the cabbage’s outer leaf, rinse it thoroughly and leave it to dry off. Remove the stem and press it over with a rolling pin to get its juices running. Wrap the leaf in aluminum foil and put it in the oven for a couple of minutes to heat it up. Take it out and apply it over the painful joint. Secure the cabbage leaf in place with a bandage and leave it on for an hour. Repeat this process 2-3 times a day.
You can also use cold cabbage compresses, instead of using the oven place the cabbage leaves in the fridge and after a while apply them on the painful joints.
